Ongoing Algonquin Park Trail
Development
OTRA's Trail Development Fund has approved monies
for continuing improvements
to the equestrian trails in the Park. We hope to see a sign to
designate the entrance
(pending approval) as well as bridgework and culverts.
Mattawa Equestrian Camp
Funds were contributed to build structures at
this campsite and trail building continues
with the help of VMUTS work crews.

This equestrian
trail network is part of the Voyageur Multi-Use Trail System
(VMUTS)
June 17th - 19th, 2006, a work party of OTRA members battled extreme
heat and bugs to mark and brush out over 20 campsite around the main
open area. Once the bulldozer is done it's work, these will
enable rigs to pull off the main roadway into a shaded, level site
with abundant trees for picketing. There is ample space and
opportunity for future expansion. A water source was found
close to camp and a trail was blazed and cleared to access it.
We toured the area via truck and ATV to see possible river
crossings, link trails, scenic views and bridges. This system
is offering equestrians a permanent camp with access to an extensive
and growing trail system! |
